I'm a University Lecturer in English and the author of a novel, The Secret of Hurricanes (MacAdam/Cage 2002). My life is summed up by Rumi, who said: "My story gets told in various ways: a romance, a dirty joke, a war, a vacancy." Rumi's quote is the epigraph to Hurricanes. Amazing. Timeless. True more today than when first uttered. I am crying for all of us. What happened to social conscience? How could we have elected such callous leaders that they actually think the evil is out there and not inside their own warmongering hearts? Teagrapple
I sincerely hope that service and devotion to our fellow man will rise again, and is rekindled by our nation's leaders. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that soon this nation is ruled again by compassion instead of hatred and fear.
