I'm a University Lecturer in English and the author of a novel, The Secret of Hurricanes (MacAdam/Cage 2002). My life is summed up by Rumi, who said: "My story gets told in various ways: a romance, a dirty joke, a war, a vacancy." Rumi's quote is the epigraph to Hurricanes. The purpose of this journal is to explore creativity and the writing life.

Today I had watermelon.
Today Allen fixed my supper. He cut chicken breasts into strips, breaded the strips and fried them. They were spicy and good. He stir fried vegetables and warmed spinach pie left over from yesterday. For dessert I had watermelon.
OK, I know the point is a release from comments, but I must say ... I LOVE WATERMELON! It makes me think of summer evenings in my grandma's side yard, trying to hit things with the seeds we spit--trees, cans, patches of grass.
Dear Theresa, I've been away from my blog for a few weeks, and have no idea whether you have already been nominated for a Reflective Blogger award, but I would like to nominate you. Your blog inspires me - and even your most recent post just shows - your experimental approach to how this works is wonderful to witness. I love the gems of wisdom you have to offer and want to say Thank You. The post is long, but the relevant piece is the last section, so you can scroll down if you like to see what it's about.
