I'm a University Lecturer in English and the author of a novel, The Secret of Hurricanes (MacAdam/Cage 2002). My life is summed up by Rumi, who said: "My story gets told in various ways: a romance, a dirty joke, a war, a vacancy." Rumi's quote is the epigraph to Hurricanes. The purpose of this journal is to explore creativity and the writing life.

Tonight was my reading. The other writer reading tonight was Amy Bloom. I read first, a short selection of what I've been working on here at FAWC and a short selection from The Secret of Hurricanes. I love the audiences at FAWC; they are large and appreciative. Afterwards, there was a reception sponsored by my wonderful state, Ohio. Boiled shrimp, cheeses, fruits, crackers, wine! I feel many ways blessed.
Great! Can we get a sample of new stuff from reading if not wine & cheese?
