I'm a University Lecturer in English and the author of a novel, The Secret of Hurricanes (MacAdam/Cage 2002). My life is summed up by Rumi, who said: "My story gets told in various ways: a romance, a dirty joke, a war, a vacancy." Rumi's quote is the epigraph to Hurricanes. The purpose of this journal is to explore creativity and the writing life.

Why They Write
Students in the Imaginative Writing class tell why they write. Some of the responses are very "imaginative"--for instance, "I am a demon and the last of my kind." There's a cool surprise at the end of this video.
I wish I could tell you how impressed I am by your videos. They're evocative, provoking, endearing. Is that you saying, "Keep playing." in the last one?
Theresa, you must be flying. I`m so enjoying catching up with your journal. Teaching that class would seem to be a wellspring for you. This is really wonderful. V

ReplyDeleteCyn, yes, that is me saying, "Keep playing"! :-)
ReplyDeleteI didn't really get the end, but it's still very cool.
ReplyDeleteRobin, yes, I know, I was being too obscure. The young woman at the end wrote a poem which is an epitaph for the Bush Administration. :-)
