I'm a University Lecturer in English and the author of a novel, The Secret of Hurricanes (MacAdam/Cage 2002). My life is summed up by Rumi, who said: "My story gets told in various ways: a romance, a dirty joke, a war, a vacancy." Rumi's quote is the epigraph to Hurricanes. The purpose of this journal is to explore creativity and the writing life.

Hundreds of Geese!
Hundreds of Canada Geese in a man-made pond beside the freeway.
I think geese are amazing, and in large groups a little frightening. During certain times of year, we have a lot of geese by my office building, because we have a pond here. They're not afraid of us, so you can walk right beside them, or sit nearby and observe how they interact with one another. It's interesting!
