Open House

OPEN HOUSE
by Theodore Roethke

My secrets cry aloud.
I have no need for tongue.
My heart keeps open house,
My doors are widely swung.
An epic of the eyes
My love, with no disguise.

My truths are all foreknown,
This anguish self-revealed.
I'm naked to the bone,
With nakedness my shield.
Myself is what I wear:
I keep the spirit spare.

The anger will endure,
The deed will speak the truth
In language strict and pure.
I stop the lying mouth;
Rage warps my dearest cry
To witness agony.

I just posted my very last entry on my AOL Journal. I quoted Theodore Roethke's "Open House" as a way of trying to explain why I find the ads so offensive. My blog is my house. My thoughts are the opening of my house to the world. This makes my blog hallowed ground, no less hallowed than Gettysburg.

I don't think I'm going to transfer my complete AOL Journal here. I think I will just make a new start here and see where the experience takes me.

To all my AOL friends: please be patient with me. I'm slow to learn. HTML? What is that? This whole experience has been quite overwhelming. If you don't hear from me for a while, please understand I haven't forgotten you. It's just that I'm trying to find my way in new territory.

Also, I look forward to making new friends here at Blogger.

Please know that I cherish each and every comment and that your comments give me strength.

Welcome to our brave new world!
There was a time that I didn't know what the internet was.... We all keep growing all the time. That is the nature of things, and with growth comes change.
Peace, Virginia

You might want to contact Emma; she supplied me with a list to place on my journal of favorite sites and the knowledge of how to insert things here at Blogspot. She made it so simple.

This too shall pass...

I like Blogspot better and had been thinking of moving for months, the only reason I did not was all my friends were at AOL. LOL I am happy for the move. Self serving, no?

I know it is painful but it will get better.

What a perfect poem to describe all our feelings at having banners displayed. HTML codes are not that hard to learn. There are many tutorials you can do online. You already figured how to upload your pictures. WE are just expanding our internet horizons.

What a beautiful poem, Theresa. I wish you well in your new home, and shall be visiting often, my dear. Hear's a little housewarming hug and kiss ((xox))

I love the poetry you are bringing to this crisis.

I'm finding the whole enterprise quite challenging, too. I can see it will take weeks and weeks, if not monrhs and months.

But there was a time when I didn't know how to do a single thing on the computer, and had to ask for help at the end of every little task. We will learn this, too!

Saying goodbye to old ways is sometimes very sad and I know that it hurts a lot. Don't think of it as letting go of the old, but rather reaching forward for the new. Life is about changes and this my friend is good.

Your first piece artwork reminds me of a self-portrait that I created many years ago. Seeing the tears run from your eye, made me remember my own. What a powerful piece Theresa, very powerful!

I can't wait to see more of your work!

Hugs,

T

"I was no better than dust, yet you cannot replace me. . . Take the soft dust in your hand--does it stir: does it sing? Has it lips and a heart? Does it open its eyes to the sun? Does it run, does it dream, does it burn with a secret, or tremble In terror of death? Or ache with tremendous decisions?. . ." --Conrad Aiken

From the First Chapter

The Secret of Hurricanes : That article in the Waterville Scout said it was Shake- spearean, all that fatalism that guides the Kennedys' lives. The likelihood of untimely death. Recently, another one died in his prime, John-John in an airplane. Not long before that, Bobby's boy. While playing football at high speeds on snow skis. Those Kennedys take some crazy chances. I prefer my own easy ways. Which isn't to say my life hasn't been Shake-spearean. By the time I was sixteen, my life was like the darkened stage at the end of Hamlet or Macbeth. All littered with corpses and treachery.
