Dragon Lady. Collage, pen & ink. 8 1/2 x 11. Theresa Williams
I'm a University Lecturer in English and the author of a novel, The Secret of Hurricanes (MacAdam/Cage 2002). My life is summed up by Rumi, who said: "My story gets told in various ways: a romance, a dirty joke, a war, a vacancy." Rumi's quote is the epigraph to Hurricanes. The purpose of this journal is to explore creativity and the writing life.

Wasn't "dragon lady" a name our GIs used to call pretty young Vietnamese girls during the last hopeless war? I am picturing white loose fitting kimono-like dresses with white hats. Teagrapple
Rae, Dragon Lady" refers to an Asian woman who is perceived as seductive, desirable but at the time she is untrustworthy. I wanted to diffuse the stereotype with this image, which I think/hope is elegant and earthy and wise.
OK. Glad you cleared that up. I love the feet on the collage. They are definitely grounded. Teagrapple Rae
You're welcome, Rae. I wanted her to be both grounded and ethereal.
