The Sound and the Fury

Ha, ha, ha!

I took the quiz that I saw on Cynthia's blog. The quiz tells you what "book" you are. According to the quiz, I am The Sound and the Fury.

I'm not sure about it, though. Do I really signify nothing? Ha, ha, ha!

I do love Faulkner, however. My friend and colleague Julie tells me she thinks my writing owes much to Faulkner's dark, southern, tormented epics.

You're The Sound and the Fury!

by William Faulkner

Strong-willed but deeply confused, you are trying to come to grips
with a major crisis in your life. You can see many different perspectives on the issue,
but you're mostly overwhelmed with despair at what you've lost. People often have a hard
time understanding you, but they have some vague sense that you must be brilliant
anyway. Ultimately, you signify nothing.

I can definitely see Faulkner's influence in your writing. It's not just your voice with a southern accent.::grin::

I took the quiz, too, several times...first time I was Watership Down, primarily because I said I don't feel old. But I wasn't sure about that, since I feel really tired and overwhelmed with difficulties, so I did it again saying that yes, I do feel old. Lo and behold, a whole different set of questions pops up. And then I became The Mists of Avalon when I said yes to the British Isles question, and when I didn't, The Sound and the Fury. Hmmm. Do they have a book for those of us who can't make up our minds? So glad you posted this. Thanks, Teagrapple

I love quizzes! Here is mine:

You're Siddhartha!
by Hermann Hesse
You simply don't know what to believe, but you're willing to try anything once. Western values, Eastern values, hedonism and minimalism, you've spent some time in every camp. But you still don't have any idea what camp you belong in. This makes you an individualist of the highest order, but also really lonely. It's time to chill out under a tree. And realize that at least you believe in ferries.

Now, see? Why couldn't I have been Siddhartha? I would've loved to be Siddhartha! ;-)

PS Story of my life I set out to discover the meaning of life (Siddhartha) and end up signifying nothing! LOL. Teagrapple, I think it's so funny that you took the test multiple times because you couldn't make up your mind about the answers. There's a story in there somewhere. Cyn: you can't hide that dark stuff from the writing; guess I'll always be a child of the South, whether I like it or not. XOXOXXXOO to all.

HaHa! I actually haven't read Siddhartha, but I'll certainly have to now. :-)

Ultimately, you signify nothing.
That sounds so empty for a soul so full of meaning..right-wrong or indifferent.
Qizzes are fun, much like horoscopes.

"I was no better than dust, yet you cannot replace me. . . Take the soft dust in your hand--does it stir: does it sing? Has it lips and a heart? Does it open its eyes to the sun? Does it run, does it dream, does it burn with a secret, or tremble In terror of death? Or ache with tremendous decisions?. . ." --Conrad Aiken

From the First Chapter

The Secret of Hurricanes : That article in the Waterville Scout said it was Shake- spearean, all that fatalism that guides the Kennedys' lives. The likelihood of untimely death. Recently, another one died in his prime, John-John in an airplane. Not long before that, Bobby's boy. While playing football at high speeds on snow skis. Those Kennedys take some crazy chances. I prefer my own easy ways. Which isn't to say my life hasn't been Shake-spearean. By the time I was sixteen, my life was like the darkened stage at the end of Hamlet or Macbeth. All littered with corpses and treachery.
